The Hong Kong Prize is a national literary award organised by the Government of Hong Kong. It is open to local writers of all ages and is awarded by the Committee on the Promotion of Popular Culture in recognition of their contributions to Hong Kong literature. The prize consists of an award certificate and HK$25,000 cash. Previous winners of the prize include novelist and poet Alan Chu, essayist and columnist Victor Fan and playwright and actor Alan Mak.
The HK Film Awards () is a set of annual awards presented by the Hong Kong Film Workers Association Ltd, a professional organization representing thirteen film worker groups in Hong Kong. The HKFA was established in 1993, and its awards are voted on by registered voters, which includes film workers and other film enthusiasts. In addition to the top five winners in each category, there is also a Special Jury Prize and a New Talent Award.
Each Mark Six draw carries seven prize divisions, from the jackpot in the 1st division to fixed prizes of HK$9600 in the 4th and HK$640 in the 5th division. A bonus prize of HK$40 is also given in the 7th division for picking just three out of the six drawn numbers. Each bet must have a unit investment of at least HK$10, with partial unit investments of HK$5 allowed for Multiple and Banker entries.
During the mass protests in Hong Kong last year, people including police officers, students or tourists from mainland China and innocent Hong Kong residents were attacked by anti-government activists while public facilities such as subway stations, streets and banks were vandalized. One of the winning photos in this year’s Photo Contest showed a bleeding man being hit by a masked protester with a hammer in Mong Kok. The official website of the prize stresses that the victim was suspected to be a pro-Beijing activist from mainland China.
In October, the Hong Kong Science Museum will jointly present a special exhibition with The Shaw Prize Foundation to introduce this year’s renowned scientists and their outstanding achievements. The exhibition will allow the public to learn more about the research journey of the Shaw Laureates in the fields of Astronomy, Life Science and Medicine, and Mathematical Sciences.
This year’s BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE was handed over at a ceremony today (Dec 15 2023) with pomp and circumstance. The highest decision-making body, The Board of Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation, is responsible for reviewing and interpreting the Charter; suggesting important scientific research fields for THE PRIZE; appointing members of the Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team; setting requirements of nominating experts; verifying and approving the final review results; and deciding the winner in each field reward category.
Prof. FAN Zhiyong from the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering and Chemical & Biological Engineering at HKU is among the recipients of this year’s Xplorer Prize 2022. Supported by Tencent Foundation, the Xplorer Prize encourages young scientists under 45 in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau to research unexplored areas of advanced interdisciplinary studies.
